I said I would take a listen and write a review, so here I am. :)</B></div> <div> <B>I have purchased Dawn’s ‘Have You Heard’ album, and the tracks I review here are all from this album. </B></div> <div> <B>Thankfully, Dawn has already told you much about herself in her bio, so my researching has been made a lot easier, so more of my time could be spent listening to the music. [Sometimes, I just love this reviewing lark :) ]</B></div> <div> <B>I would highly recommend that you take a look at Dawn’s YouTube channel, in order to get a feel for some of the energy that she puts into her live performances. http://www.youtube.com/user/dawnmaracle/videos </B></div> <div> <B>You would then be able to see and hear for yourselves that Dawn is not just an amazing vocalist and exceptionally talented musician, but she is also an extremely good entertainer too; this woman can seriously rock!</B></div> <div> <B>‘Good Luck Bad Luck’ opens with an acoustic guitar, strumming for a few bars, and then you are treated to the first appearance of Dawn’s noticeably powerful but controlled voice. The track continues with Dawn singing to the acoustic guitar accompaniment, along with some backing vocals. About half way through this track, the listener is treated to almost a full minute of a most impressive performance of jazz scat-singing, a brilliant start to this album.</B></div> <div> <B>From the very first beat of the drum, ‘Pressure’ is quite obviously a Rock song; yes that is rock with a capital ‘R’! Dawn clearly revels in the opportunity to showcase just how immensely powerful her singing voice is, yet you never get the impression that the words are being shouted out. Dawn always remains comfortably in charge of exactly how her voice sounds and follows the melody precisely. This track includes some great electric guitar playing, and the production quality of this track (indeed the whole album) is of a very high quality.</B></div> <div> <B>‘Buttercup’ offers Dawn another chance to scat-sing along with a more relaxed jazzy number. It is very clear that Dawn is far from being a one-trick pony. I enjoy almost all styles of music, however one has to question whether many die-hard rock music fans will be easily converted to appreciating jazz and scat; well if anyone can take on that challenge, it seems that Dawn just might be the person to do it.</B></div> <div> <B>‘Fly Away’ and ‘Everybody’ return to being rock tracks. Pounding drums, cool electric guitar riffs, real fine lyrics, and Dawn’s awesome voice, sounds like a recipe for guaranteed success.</B></div> <div> <B>‘Dannie’ has a slightly softer rock feel, however don’t let that fool you, the electric guitar solo soon reminds you that there is a true artist behind this song, and I wanted to play that track over and over, at least a dozen times, just to be able to enjoy it one more time. I would have still been happy if that solo had gone on for ten minutes or more. </B></div> <div> <B>The album closes with ‘Go To Hell’, which opens quite conservatively, no thumping drums, just sit back and enjoy the voice and the words that Dawn is sharing with you. The second half of the song treats you to an acoustic guitar solo in what some might refer to as a jazz style jam.</B></div> <div> <B>Listening to this album has been a journey through sound, one that I would be happy to make again and again. I have been listening to most of the music I review through the same trusty pair of Sony headphones, which allows me to listen rather loud at unsociable hours, without waking my neighbors, but which also allows me to compare tracks on a common platform. </B></div> <div> <B>I have to say the quality of the recordings on this album have been outstandingly high. I can feel the bass of the drums thumping away, I can hear fingers slide on guitar strings, and the stereo separation has been simply excellent. </B></div> <div> <B>From a purely technical point of view, this album has to be among the best quality recordings that I have purchased via iTunes.
